- More than 50 percent of countries worldwide have already expanded the definition of accessibility in their legal frameworks to embrace ICT, including mobile, Internet, computers, video programming, services using digital interfaces, and assistive technologies.
- That is a 61 percent increase between 2012 and 2014. We expect this global trend toward greater legal definition of accessible ICT and policies to promote broader digital inclusion of persons with disabilities to continue worldwide.
As a result, country level ICT accessibility policies, laws and regulations and their implementation by governments and judicial systems are increasing in both depth and breadth around the world. This rapid growth is primarily driven by digital inclusion concerns for aging populations and by the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) by more than 154 countries, as of May 2015, making it compulsory for countries to develop ICT accessibility policies.
